About Course
This course will present an overview of Parkinson’s disease, or PD, with a focus on the person with advanced PD. It is meant for home health aides and nursing home staff who work one-on-one with people with advanced PD. We know you play an important role in their care, and your ability to handle their increasing symptoms can make a tremendous difference in their lives.
This course will discuss PD symptoms and treatments. It will highlight the specific challenges of PD as the disease advances and offer strategies about how best to take care of a person with advanced PD. At the end, we hope you will feel better equipped to handle the obstacles that may come your way when caring for someone with advanced PD.

Course Objectives
- The learner will be able to define Parkinson’s disease (PD) and explain the basics of PD progression.
- The learner will be able to identify the motor and non-motor symptoms of advanced PD
- The learner will be able to explain a) the reason why medications for PD need to be given on time b) the importance of exercise for someone with PD
