ABOUT APDA VIRGINIA
The Virginia Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, chartered in 1993, supports the national mission by educating and empowering those in our community challenged with Parkinson’s by promoting hope and optimism through innovative services and programs and funding vital research. This dual mission of helping people live better today, while we also fight for a better life tomorrow, is unique.
What We Do
- Information & Referrals: We provide information, referrals, resources, and a listening ear. We also help people find a support group, wellness programs, or a healthcare provider.
- Education: We offer a wide variety of publications and produce a bi-monthly News You Can Use Virginia email newsletter.
- Research: Raise funds for research into the cause and cure of Parkinson’s disease. APDA has directed nearly $282 million to scientific research and has been a funding partner in almost every major Parkinson’s scientific breakthrough over the past 60+ years.
- Support Groups: We work with professional facilitators and a network of volunteers who are trained by APDA.
- Health and Wellness Classes: Specifically for people with Parkinson’s, including dance, boxing, singing, and yoga.
- In-Person & Virtual Programs: We offer two annual conferences, newly diagnosed programs, and more throughout the year. Be the first to hear about programs by joining our email list.
