New York, June 9, 2014 – What better way to commemorate Father’s Day than to take part in a healthy activity at a beautiful location all while raising critical funds to help Ease the Burden – Find the Cure for Parkinson’s Disease? On Sunday, June 15, you and your family can make a difference by running, walking, cheering or by simply donating today to this special event that will help support the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA.)

The Connecticut Chapter of APDA is honored to have been chosen as the primary charity forThe 2014 Branford Road Race. With its nearly 35 year history of being one of the biggest and best running events in the United States, this race has become an integral part of the weekend long celebration of The Branford Festival from June 13-15.

“We were thrilled when local resident Ray Figlewski, one of the race organizers and an avid runner who has been living with Parkinson’s for 8 years contacted APDA to partner with this long standing local event to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease,” said Michael Hahn, APDA’s Connecticut Chapter President. “Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease that impacts more than 8,500 people in the state of Connecticut alone and millions of individuals and families across the country. We saw collaboration with Ray and The Branford Road Race as the perfect opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle while providing critical funding for Parkinson’s programs and services right here in Connecticut.”

Since its inception in 1985, Father’s Day Weekend in Branford has become synonymous with The Branford Festival and The Branford Road Race is a premiere part of the weekend. The historic Branford Town Green is transformed into a festival of crafts, activities, food, live music and much, much more. The festival provides something for the entire family and the fun filled weekend has turned into Branford’s home-coming where former residents travel from all over to be reunited with family and old friends.

The Branford Road Race will take place on Sunday, June 15 in Branford, CT. Options to participate are available for all ages and abilities. Choose from the Fun Run beginning at 9:30am, the Health Walk that begins at 10:10am or the 5-mile USATF certified road racethat begins at 10:15am. The timed 5-mile course passes through many of Branford’s scenic beaches, park and residential neighborhoods so there is no better way to take in the scenic waterfront town than this.
