Managing Motor Fluctuations in Parkinson’s Disease: A Wheel of Knowledge Challenge
While Parkinson’s disease is regarded as a hypokinetic motor disease with bradykinesia, resting tremor, and rigidity as its classic features, neuropsychiatric and other non-motor symptoms can have an even greater impact on patients’ quality of life. In early disease, motor symptoms can be controlled in many patients with levodopa treatment; but over time, many patients start to experience “off episodes” in which symptoms re-emerge, often in a severe and long-lasting form. This wearing-off of treatment effectiveness can reduce patients’ quality of life, yet treatment options have been limited. As improved treatment options become available that allow for rapid “off-to-on” treatment, neurologists require education on these advances to improve patient care. In this Wheel of Knowledge activity, learners will learn about and be tested on the latest updates in “off episodes.” This activity is supported by an educational grant from Sunovion and provided by Vindico Medical Education.
The intended audience for this activity is neurologists, movement disorder specialists, and other health care professionals involved in the management of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
